David Lynch is an interesting filmmaker. The Elephant Man is my favourite film (I am aware that it is considered his least “Lynchian” work). Today, however, I’m going to share my own take on his other early works, Blue Velvet and Eraserhead. These two works are off-puttingly eccentric, impenetrably ambiguous, and misogynistically Freudian, so I used Lacanian Psychoanalytical Film Theory to give you my interpretation of what Lynch is showing us.
Retrospectively, I feel that both the films and my analysis were very phallocentric. Read with caution, I come across as a bit of a dick (pun intended).
Enjoy!
